Transcript Evaluation

Transferring Credit from An Institution Abroad

UT does not require undergraduate international students to transfer credits from abroad. Graduate program applicants are required to have their undergraduate transcript evaluated if it was earned at a non-U.S. institution.

Graduate applicants and undergraduate students wishing to transfer credits from an institution outside of the U.S. MUST have their official transcript evaluated by a professional credential evaluation company. The purpose of this evaluation is to determine whether the credits earned abroad are equivalent to credit students earn by studying at UT. Having this confirmation is necessary for credit transfer due to U.S. higher education accreditation requirements.

Please note that undergraduate international students may transfer credit at any time. Although it is easier to do during the application process, current international students who entered as freshmen are still allowed to transfer credits earned abroad to UT.

1

Select a Credential Evaluator to work with

UT recommends working with World Education Services (WES). If not working with WES, please make sure the company you are working with is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES). You will need to request a course-by-course or comprehensive report, depending on the company you select.

2

Request Credential Evaluation and provide your Official Transcript

Work with the company you selected to determine their procedure for transcript evaluation. This service can cost $100-$500.

3

Have your Evaluation Report sent to UT Registrar's Office

Request that the credential evaluator send their evaluation report directly to records@utahtech.edu. UT’s Registrar’s Office will only accept a transcript evaluation sent directly by the evaluation company.

4

Provide Course Descriptions or Syllabi to UT Registrar's Office

The evaluation report confirms whether courses offered are equivalent to those offered at UT. In order for the courses to directly substitute for courses offered at UT, you must also provide course descriptions or syllabi (translated to English, if required) to the UT Registrar’s office at records@utahtech.edu. Without course descriptions, all approved credit can only be transferred as elective credit.

Transcript evaluation can take months! It may take 2-3 months for the credential evaluation company to produce your report during busy months.
In addition, please anticipate at least 30 days for evaluation to be completed by UT’s Registrar’s office once the evaluation report and course descriptions/syllabi are received.
